Blackcurrant recipes for all the family to enjoy

Blackcurrants are a renowned super food with a long list of health benefits. Zeaberry Blackcurrant Powder can be used in many recipes. We’ve come up with a few recipe ideas to get you started,using both frozen and Blackcurrant powder.

Blackcurrant muffins


  • 1 cup of frozen blackcurrants         
  • 2 cups flour
  • 4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4  cup of sugar*
  • 1/2 tsp oil
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 2 eggs


Beat the eggs, sugar , oil and milk together , lightly fold the dry  ingredients then gently fold the berries.

Spoon in to a greased muffin tray and bake at 220c  for 15-20 mins.

*As an alternative, to replace 1/4 cup sugar with a large grated apple.


Superfood Smoothie


  • 1/2 cup Blackcurrants or (1 tsp Zeaberry blackcurrant powder)

  • 1/2 frozen banana

  • 1 teaspoon Spirulina powder(we like the flavour of the powder from O2B Healthy)

  • 250mls Wangapeka Dairy Milk Kefir (dairy free option use a low sugar apple juice,we use Mill Orchard)


Wiz up in a smoothie maker or blender!!

If you don’t have Milk Kefir- which is a probiotic cultured milk product use natural Greek yoghurt.

 Purple Porridgepurpleporidge


  • Porridge oats
  • Milk
  • Zeaberry Blackcurrant Powder


Make your usual bowl of porridge and add a teaspoon of Blackcurrant powder.  Add honey to sweeten if required.  Kids love it!


There are three main varieties of blackcurrants grown in New Zealand.Each had it’s own distinctive flavour profile.

Zeaberry have chosen Ben Ard for its high levels of antioxidants and Vitamin C and also it’s profile:

sweet acidity,herbaceous,richest colour.


Some more suggestions on how to use Blackcurrants:

Gelato, salads, salsa, ice cream, jus to use with lamb,beef,venison,pork and duck.

Blackcurrants are very versatile and you are only limited by your imagination!!Sweet, Savoury and everything in between.
